Marjorie Marie "Margie" Hylen Obituary

Marjorie Marie Steiner Hylen, 89, of Pennsville, New Jersey, passed away on July 8, 2025.

Marjorie was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to David and Olga Steiner on October 9, 1935. Upon graduation from high school, Marjorie attended and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught home economics for one year following her college graduation. Marjorie met her future husband that summer, Leslie Lyle Hylen, and they were married on August 15th, 1958. Immediately following their wedding, the newlyweds left for their honeymoon.

The honeymoon consisted of a 3-week drive to Fairbanks, Alaska, in a Volkswagen with 4 tires tied to the sides of the car. Their first child was born in Fairbanks. Alaska was not for them and they left before Christmas, 1959. They returned to Pittsburgh with their infant daughter in the same Volkswagen, but it is unknown if the tires made the return trip. Three more children completed the family and they stayed in the Pittsburgh area until moving to Haddonfield, NJ, with their four children in June 1975. This time a large moving van accompanied their move. Marjorie and Lyle left Haddonfield in 1994 and relocated to Pennsville to be near their grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Lyle, and they would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on August 15th, 2025. She is survived by her four children: Kirsten Hylen Lopatin of Woodstown, NJ, Christoper Hylen and his wife, Bita, of Heber City, Utah, Page Peters and her husband, Craig, of Yardley, PA and Joel Hylen and his wife, Jane, of St. Louis, Missouri.

She is also survived by her granddaughter Brittany Lopatin of Pennsville, NJ, and her significant other, Douglas Carr; her grandson, Justin Lopatin of Pennsville, NJ, and his wife, Malorie Nelson and their son, her great-grandson, Dawson David Lopatin; her former daughter-in-law, Lynn Hylen of Newport Beach, and grandsons Spencer Hylen of San Francisco, CA, and Trevor Hylen of Richland, WA and grandsons William and Grant Hylen of St. Louis.

She is also survived by her grandson Christopher Lopatin and his wife, Katanya, of Woodstown, her great-granddaughter Lauren Freas Wright, her husband, Justin and their daughter, Marjorie's great-great granddaughter, Emma Elizabeth Wright of Monroeville, NJ along with her great-grandson, Andrew Michael Freas of Mullica Hill, NJ.

She is also survived by her sister, Jean Robl of Pittsburgh, PA, and her nieces, Terri, Robin and Lisa Robl and their respective families. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Robert Robl and her parents, David and Olga Steiner.
