Dr. Charles L. Liebeknecht, age 96 of Pennsville, NJ passed away on Thursday May 1, 2025 at the Collingswood Manor, Collingswood, NJ. Doc was born in Camden, NJ and was the son of the late Henry and Josephine Liebeknecht. He graduated from Moorestown High School, Gettysburg College, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Internship Bashline Rossman Hospital, Grove City, PA, staff member before moving to Pennsville in 1960. He served his country faithfully as a First Lieutenant USAF during the Korean War.
Doc was an initial member NJ Boy's State in 1946, Life member of ATO , Beta Beta Beta, Phi Sigma Medical fraternity, AOA, NJ, Osteopathic Association, Tri County OP &S, Board of directors NJ, O.P.S. 1963-1964, PCOM Alumni Association, Honorary Member Salem Medical Center since 1995. Pennsville M.H.S. Physician 17 years, Member of the Pennsville Rotary Club for 64 years and President in 1976 and was Paul Harris Fellowship recipient, member of Pennsville American Legion of 60 years, member of Pennsville Historical Society, NJ Archeological Society, Salem Health & Wellness Foundation in 2006, Member of the St. Gabriel the Archangel Parrish since 1960. He was chairman of the American Heart Fund 1961, Salem County American Heart Walk in 2000, Pennsville Jaycees outstanding Young Member 1965, Citizen of the year, Alumni Association of P.M.H.S.
He was the Parade Marshall for the Pennsville Septemberfest in 1982, Honorary Grand Marshall of the Pennsville 10th Annual Showcase of Bands 1984, Pennsville Memorial Day Parade Marshall 1987, Armed Forces Day Parade Marshall 2018, Pennsville VFW Person of the year 2018, Salem County Sports Hall of Fame 2018, Salem County Boy Scouts of America Good Scout Award 1999, Archaeological Society of NJ Appreciation Award 2004, Rotary Doc-Walk 2023. Doc was an avid hunter, fisherman and bridge player.
Survived by his daughters, Pamela (Dan) Corman of Superior, NE and Tina (Kirby) Rohrs of Lincoln, NE and Anne (Eric) Ellery of Kingsport, TN, son, William (Karen) Liebeknecht of Audubon, NJ, 5 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren.
Predeceased by his wife of 73 Years Rosemarie Liebeknecht in 2023, son, Charles Liebeknecht and a brother, William H. Liebeknecht.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 PM on Friday May 9th at the St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish/Corpus Christi Church, 369 Georgetown Rd., Carney's Point, NJ 08069. Friends may call from 12:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the Mass. Burial with Military honors will follow at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ
