Rita Grace (Proctor) Hughes, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the age of 90 years old at her home that she shared with her grandson and his wife, Nicholas and Catie Maranzano. She celebrated her 90th birthday on December 25th surrounded by her family and friends.

Rita will be remembered for her warmth, generosity and strength. She dedicated her life to her family. She was a stay-at-home mother who was active in her children's lives. All of her family and friends have lost a special lady, who will never be replaced in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness. She was a member of St. Gabriel the Arch Angel Catholic Church, Penns Grove, NJ.

Born in Ashland, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Leona Proctor. She is preceded in death of her husband, Emerson, her daughter, Debra Fetterolf, and her 7 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Vargas (Leanny), James Hughes (Kathleen) and Lisa Maranzano (Kenneth), and 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

At Rita's request, burial services will be private. Before she passed, she made it known that she wanted all to share in a celebration of her journey home.

The family would like to thank Angelic Health – Hospice Care, Pleasantville, NJ, for their extraordinary care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hospice.
